Gets jail time for probation violation: Daniel Baldwin's wife Joanne Baldwin

Daniel Baldwin, of the acting Baldwin brothers, last week called the police on his estranged wife Joanne after she allegedly made death threats against him while drunk. He also claims Joanne has become physically violent with him in the past and even once pulled a knife.

Now Thirty Mile Zone is reporting that Joanne, who is on probation for a DUI, will serve 10 days in jail for drinking alcohol while on probation. When cops observed that she was drunk when Daniel called the police, that became a parole violation. However, Joanne is getting credit for time served, so she'll be released Friday, July 22.

The judge has ordered her to wear a SCRAM bracelet indefinitely. SCRAM bracelets have recently been in the news because it's what starlet Lindsay Lohan has had to wear during her probation as well.

Released after drug arrest - Paris Hilton

The socialite was booked into the Clark County Detention Centre early on Saturday on the cocaine charge, Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin said. She was released before dawn on her own recognisance.

The 29-year-old Hilton was in a car driven by a friend when it was stopped about 11.30pm local time on Friday after officers detected what they suspected to be marijuana smoke wafting from it, he said.

"Officers noticed a vehicle leaving smoke trail of a controlled substance (and) made a stop based on that," Martin said.

During the stop, officers found what appeared to be a drug on Hilton and later tests showed that it was cocaine, Martin said. He didn't know how much was found.

He said Hilton was apparently recognised by passers-by and a crowd quickly gathered in the area where the vehicle had been pulled over.

Police watch commander Lieutenant Wayne Holman said Hilton was released early on Saturday morning. He didn't know how long she had been held nor any details about a possible court date.

He said the man who was driving the car was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs. But he didn't have any other details, including his name.

The arrest came during a week in which a burglary attempt was made on Hilton's Los Angeles home.

Officials said 31-year-old Nathan Lee Parada faces a felony burglary charge in the incident on Tuesday.

Authorities have said that someone carrying two big knives banged on Hilton's window. She posted a photo of the arrest on Twitter and described it as "scary."

Hilton was arrested this summer after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup match in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was then dropped at a midnight court hearing.

Hilton pleaded no contest in 2007 to alcohol-related reckless driving and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. After spending about 23 days in jail, Hilton told US television host Larry King that the experience caused her to re-evaluate the role partying played in her life. She said she wanted "to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis."

Lindsay Lohan - Prescription Problem

It turns out that troubled Mean Girls actress Lindsay Lohan's recent problems could have been caused by a misdiagnosis.

According to TMZ, doctors at the UCLA Medical Center, where Lohan, 24, is currently serving a court-ordered 90-day inpatient stay, reportedly believe that the star was misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, otherwise known as ADHD.

The drug Adderall is commonly prescribed to treat the disorder and may have caused Lohan to display the irrational manic symptoms similar to someone who is abusing cocaine or methamphetamine.

Dr. Peter Breggin, a psychiatrist and leading expert on the dangers of the over-prescribing of psychiatric drugs, told MTV News it doesn’t really matter if Lohan was misdiagnosed or not. “Whether or not she was misdiagnosed, [Adderall] will have the same effect,” said Breggin.

Breggin is the author of Medication Madness: The Role of Psychiatric Drugs in Cases of Violence, Suicide, and Crime. Although he is not familiar with the details of Lohan’s case, he continues to explain about misconceptions about Adderall.

“It's a myth that it will have a different effect whether you have ADHD or not. If she was given Adderall, it's entirely possible she would have a reaction that was indistinguishable from that of methamphetamine or cocaine, including producing manic or psychotic behavior.”

With all the new information in mind, the new judge in the case will meet with lawyers next week to discuss a possible early release for Lohan.

Shoaib and I must divorce before his marriage

Ayesha Siddiqui and her family today threatened to sue the Pakistani cricketer and made it clear that the unsavoury chapter will be closed only if she gets an “official divorce.”

Ayesha, who claims to have married Shoaib in 2002, circulated copies of her ‘nikahnama’ to Pakistan and Indian channels where she spoke about the alleged relationship.

“I have released this marriage certificate because Shoaib and his family have constantly been denying this marriage,” Ayesha said.

28-year-old Shoaib is all set to tie the nuptial knot with 23-year-old tennis sensation Sania on April 15 in Hyderabad, which will be followed by a reception in Lahore.

“The only thing I want now is an official divorce from him, but it has to be in the open and not behind closed doors, because he can always then deny it later as he has the marriage. I want to end my ordeal, I want to move on and put a stop to people asking me questions constantly about my marriage to him. Even an official ‘talaq, talaq, talaq’ will do,” she said.

Her father M.A. Siddiqui threatened to file a case against Shoaib if he went ahead with the marriage to Sania without divorcing Ayesha.

While the Siddiqui family claims Shoaib is married to their daughter and Sania would be his second wife if they go ahead with the marriage, the Pakistani cricketer and his family have constantly denied that he ever entered into any wedlock with Ayesha.

Siddiqui has threatened to sue Malik and also seek a fatwa against him from Ulemas.

Ayesha said that she had released the Nikahnama because it proved that the marriage did take place.

“They are signatures of witnesses on the certificate and Shoaib sent me a copy for signature and a ‘Haq Mahar’ amount of Pakistani 500 rupees,” she said.

“I have nothing against Sania but the truth must come out,” Ayesha said.

Shiv Sena: Sania Mirza’s heart not Indian

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today lambasted tennis star Sania Mirza for deciding to marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and said she is no longer an Indian.

The 84-year-old Sena supremo also said that had Sania been truly Indian at heart she would not have chosen a Pakistani.

"Henceforth, Sania will not remain an Indian. Had her heart been Indian, it wouldn't have beaten for a Pakistani," Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

Thackeray further went ahead and asked Sania to marry an Indian if she wishes to play for India.

"If she wished to play for India,she should have chosen an Indian life partner," he added.

Thackeray's comments came days after the Sena attacked Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan for his comments on the omission of Pakistani players from the third edition of Indian Premier League(IPL) cricket tournament now underway.

23-year-old Sania, who is the most successful woman tennis player from the sub-continent, has announced her marriage to the 28-year-old former Pakistan skipper on April 15 in Hyderabad..

"More than victories on tennis court, Sania became famous for her tight clothes, fashion and love affairs," Thackeray alleged.

"More than her play, people's attention was on her mannerisms," he claimed.

The Sena supremo alleged that "for Shoaib, India is an enemy, not only in sports arena but also in the battlefield.

"We have heard that Shoaib has many affairs in India and has promised many girls he will marry them," he said.

Thackeray also expressed surprise over the alacrity with which Sania's family members were granted Pakistani visas.

"Getting a Pakistani visa is tough even for a singer like Lata Mangeshkar," he said.

A British judge is forcing Amy Winehouse to do something she's never done before. No, not go to jail, even though the once perpetually troubled singer pleaded guilty in court this morning to boozily assaulting a theater manager before Christmas.

No, her punishment is much harsher than that: She's going to have to stay out of trouble for two years. Good luck with that.

The 26-year-old, who appeared in court under her married name, Amy Civil, copped to common assault and disorder for pulling the man's hair and calling him a "f--king c--t" during a family-friendly pantomime of Cinderella.

She was fined and ordered to pay compensation of roughly $300 and given a two-year conditional discharge. Which means if she stays out of trouble for the next 24 months, she's a free woman. If not, well, in the judge's words, she'll be "hit hard...and hit twice."

Bullock is a Hollywood star, but she is no ordinary Hollywood belle!

Yes, her role in The Blind Side won her a Golden Globe Best Actress award, while The Proposal starred by her earlier has been a global box office hit.

Oh yes, she was also starring in a 1990s blockbuster Speed, although in the movie she was nothing more than just an ornament to Keanu Reeves.

These are not reasons enough for me to show her some respect.

Her performing skills are at best above average, while her movies are not really my cup of tea.

But Bullock recently donated US$1 million to the Medicine Sans Frontiers for relief works in Haiti.

Several years ago, she forked out US$1 million for the International Red Cross Society after the Indian Ocean tsunami, and a considerable sum of money towards the Katrina relief fund back home.

There are plenty in Hollywood that are more famous and loaded than Bullock, but few would go such length for charity.

When asked why she wanted to donate, Bullock said calmly, "Because I can!"

An utterly simple statement out of the mouth of such a noble lady!

It is such a simple thing, absolutely no complicated afterthoughts.

Of course, donations can never be equated with nobility, but her attitude and perception of life!

I saw Tzu Chi volunteers holding up banners to persuade shoppers in the mall to donate.

That, was also a manifestation of noble human nature.

While shoppers might see them as nuisance or even threats, whom they would do everything to shun, but in reality, we are trying to lock ourselves in from the outside world.

Haiti is half a world away from us. The country has not enjoyed good reputation or image even before the massive earthquake struck.

We used to be thinking that this country was a total mess and its people, despicable and hopeless.

But 200,000 lives do not make up just a statistical figure.

They are all individual lives!

Each of these lives has its unique significance. And in this world, any life that is in being is not in solitary existence, but synergistic, interdependent co-existence.

Warren Buffet has made loads of money, but he has not developed the slightest sense of guilt for so doing.

He keeps all his materials accomplishments in the form of cheques waiting to be cashed in time to help the underprivileged or for social causes.

Lindsay Lohan - Can Make a Difference in India?

Lindsay Lohan’s reputation with that of Mother Teresa’s, they now do have one thing in common: Concern for the underprivileged in India.

The BBC recently released a trailer previewing its documentary, Lindsay Lohan in India, which follows the actress’s week long visit in December to the subcontinent. Her intent: To investigate the trafficking of women and children. According to the BBC, during her journey Lohan meets young boys who work 16-hour days for pitiful wages, under the constant threat of beatings. In Kalkata, she visits a shelter where young girls promised work as maids were instead forced into brothels. She also encounters a reformed trafficker who once lured girls away from their families.

To find out why a parent would send a child away to work, the 23-year old star also travels to rural West Bengal, a painfully impoverished province. In the trailer it’s clear that Lohan is searching for answers and confused by what she encounters. Confronting a mother who allowed traffickers to take her daughter away, Lohan, dressed demurely in a black headscarf, asks her through a translator: “Didn’t you hear from other traffickers that children were abused? And that some girls were raped and prostituted and subjected to horrible things?”

Megan Fox’s new campaign for Armani was unveiled today, revealing her attempt at out-poshing Posh Spice, who along with husband David Beckham represented the upscale underwear line last season.

The “come-hither shots are frankly better than expected,” writes Gabriel Bell for New York Magazine. The photographers “have smoothed down some of Fox’s natural ‘hardness,’ adding intrigue to what was becoming a tired image,” said Bell.

Martin hit senior Chris Merriewether on the arm with the back of his hand late in the No. 11 Wildcats’ 74-68 loss to Missouri. Martin wasted little time in apologizing, telling reporters he was wrong before taking questions during his postgame news conference.

“That’s a mistake on my part,” Martin said. “I’m an old-school guy, but I understand the times are real sensitive now. I love him. I don’t know what to tell you. It’s wrong on my part and is completely out of line and has no part in the game. I need to apologize for that.”

Martin’s swipe came during a timeout with 1:17 left after a turnover by Merriewether led to a foul at the other end.

Before Marcus Denmon hit one of two free throws to put Missouri up 66-63, Martin called timeout and gathered his team in front of the bench. He immediately started screaming at Merriewether and flicked the back of his hand at the senior, striking him on the arm with his fingers.

The crowd at Kansas State’s end of the floor reacted and Martin, realizing he had made a mistake, flipped his hand again, appearing as if he were trying to high-five Merriewether.

Martin sought out Merriewether in the locker room after the game and apologized for popping him.

“It was just in the heat of the moment; big game, lot of heated plays going on,” Merriewether said. “I mean, he hit me in the arm, it was nothing serious. (Teammate) Jacob Pullen came back right after and he hit me in the arm, too. It really wasn’t too much. I trust Frank and Frank trusts me and it was just a heat of the moment-type deal. It’s not a big deal at all.”

It may not be a big deal to Merriewether, but Martin’s swipe is sure to get some attention at a time when coaches are being punished for abusing players.

Kansas football coach Mark Mangino resigned last month amid allegations that he mistreated his players. Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach was fired in December after he was accused of forcing an injured player to stand in a dark shed. South Florida fired football coach Jim Leavitt on Friday, saying he grabbed a player by the throat, slapped him in the face and lied about it.

Pullen didn’t believe Martin’s moment was in the same category.

“I think people really looked at that wrong,” Pullen said. “I don’t think Frank really hit him like you would hit somebody if you wanted to fight them. He hit him as like ‘Let’s go.’ Frank is an enthused person, he’s emotional on the sidelines and that’s why I think everybody came here to play for him, because we knew we had an emotional coach who would get out there just like we do.”

Martin has never been accused of inappropriate behavior with his players and Kansas State athletic director John Currie didn’t seem overly concerned after meeting with him and Merriewether following the team’s return to Manhattan on Saturday night.

“Coach Martin clearly understands his contact with Chris at the end of the game was unacceptable, regardless of the emotion of the moment,” Currie said in a statement. “I am proud of coach Martin for immediately apologizing and I expect that there will be no further such incidents.”

PETA: Use of First Lady in advertisement angers White House

The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is up to its old tricks again. This time they've raised eyebrows by using an image of Michelle Obama in an anti-fur advertisement without her permission. The White House is not pleased, to say the least.

The ad in question features the image of the first lady alongside the images of Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, and Carrie Underwood underneath the slogan, "Fur-free and fabulous!" The ads, which PETA says features "a bevy of the smartest, most stylish, and most influential women in America," are being plastered all over the Washington D.C. Metro mass transit system, in addition to appearing in various magazines and websites.

While Winfrey, Banks and Underwood are all on record as publicly endorsing PETA's anti-fur efforts, first lady Michelle Obama cannot endorse special interest groups such as PETA. Thus, the White House is mildly perturbed by the use of the first lady's image in the campaign.

"We did not consent to this," a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama said yesterday.

For their part, PETA says that they will not take down the ads and maintains that Michelle Obama's past anti-fur declarations essentially give them license to use her image in a campaign.

"We haven't asked the White House to fund or promote the campaign, as they can't do such things, but the fact is that Michelle Obama has issued a statement indicating that she doesn't wear fur, and the world should know that in PETA's eyes, that makes her pretty fabulous," said PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in a statement.

The current flap with PETA isn't the first time that Obama family members have been used without consent to promote political causes. Last August, a Washington nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy school lunches came under fire for incorporating Sasha and Malia Obama into a campaign to reform the Child Nutrition Act. The ads, which featured the image of a young African American girl, read, "President Obama's daughters get healthy school lunches. Why don't I?" Just like PETA, the group, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Action, refused to remove the ads after the White House voiced their objections.

Not surprisingly, the images and likenesses of the first family have also been used without White House consent in the interest of free enterprise, perhaps most notably on Sasha and Malia and Michelle Obama dolls. Don't be surprised at all when future controversies involving the unauthorized use of first family images arises, because it almost certainly will.

Who knew? If Rex Ryan's New York Jets score a win this Sunday, the AFC East will send two teams to the playoffs.

Shame on me for not giving the division I cover more credit. All along, from the dog days of summer until three days ago, I predicted a solitary AFC East team would make the playoffs. I was certain the only way to reach the postseason was the division title, and there wasn't much disagreement.

The New England Patriots were the clear favorite, Las Vegas' choice to win the Super Bowl. They won 11 games without Tom Brady the year before, and he played enough like his old self in training camp to make fans salivate.

Beyond that? The other divisions were more stacked. The wild cards were coming from the AFC North and AFC South. Each had sent two teams in 2008 and seemed even more competitive.

AFC East teams, meanwhile, had four of the league's seven toughest schedules based on last year's win-loss records. Compiling a record worthy of a wild card seemed impossible, and that was before the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos zoomed out of the blocks to make the wild-card scene even more crowded.
